Wishing is not hoping

Wishing is not hoping as all wishing does is imagine what it would be like to have something good, and then your mind wants it to happen. Whereas, hoping (at least understood biblically) is about waiting for God and expecting that he will give you something good. Why is this kind of hoping so different from wishing? Well, waiting on God and expecting his blessing puts trust, not in a positive outcome as such, but rather in a praiseworthy God who will provide you with all things good. Hoping is therefore closely related to faith as we hope according to what we believe God will help us with, not according to what our minds want.

For example, see Psalm 42:5 "Hope in God and wait expectantly for him, for I shall yet praise him, my help and my God."
