Desert island vacations, the peace we understand, and the heaven we yearn for
Picture for a moment, the peace promised in the holiday brochures, and see and experience the tranquility, calm, beautiful weather, luxurious infinity pools, sounds of the
sea, beautiful beaches, rest, good company, and no stress. This promise, first
and foremost, is a metaphor for what most of us yearn for, and even crave at times. Assuming we won't get bored in
these places (which is a big assumption for sure!), we can look
forward to a time when we can be always stimulated, challenged, and excited in
such an environment, and have the list above as
well. In other words, we can have our cake and eat
it - be completely, wonderfully still, and at rest and still move forward! The
metaphor, of course, which is still but a very pale reflection of the real thing, is that this is
like heaven. We can get a taste of it here though in God's peace,
which he gives to us wherever we are, and, certainly unlike the
holiday brochures passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
