God’s birds-eye love and partial love for us
God loves us both ways. On the one hand, with a birds-eye view, and so
with all perspectives in sight, all positions, all lives, all
motivations, all struggles, and so not just with you in mind; and on the
other, he also loves you partially, without consideration of others (where, as
with a faithful lover, you are the only one in view and even, the only one that
matters). God being able to love both ways seem incomprehensible and
unfathomable - that he can, at the same time,
love you as if you are the only person in the whole universe, but also love us all in precisely the same way! We need to know, and accept fully
and deeply, that his love can do both – and
to admit to ourselves (and God) that it is not enough for us to be loved from a
birds-eye view by God (or even by others if they try) – that we need to be loved partially and particularly. But also we need to
know, and accept fully and deeply, that he loves us all in this very particular
and partial way – so we are all in it
together, held by him equally. In
other words, he loved us so much that he was prepared to sacrifice himself for
you alone and for me alone, and for both
our salvation (also see John 3:16).
